Government Set to Reap Record Rs 2.56 Lakh Crore Dividend Windfall from RBI and PSU Lenders

The Indian government anticipates a substantial Rs 2.56 lakh crore in dividend income from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and public sector lenders for the fiscal year 2025-26. This projection, outlined in the recent Budget documents, marks a significant increase from the Rs 2.34 lakh crore estimated for the current fiscal year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that this dividend will bolster the government's fiscal health, aiding in reducing reliance on market borrowings. The RBI's robust performance, driven by strategic dollar sales, has paved the way for this optimistic outlook.
