Happiness Takes Center Stage: Dalai Lama Documentary to Premiere at Cannes

The 78th Cannes Film Festival is set to showcase Wisdom of Happiness, a deeply introspective documentary featuring the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. Directed by Barbara Miller and Philip Delaquis, the film offers a rare glimpse into the Dalai Lama’s philosophy on inner peace, happiness, and the challenges of the modern world.  

Shot over six years, the documentary blends archival footage with intimate conversations, allowing the Dalai Lama to speak directly to the audience about the essence of joy and the ongoing debate surrounding his reincarnation. Hollywood actor Richard Gere, a longtime follower of the Dalai Lama, serves as executive producer, lending his support to the project.  

The film, backed by private Swiss funding, premiered at the Zurich Film Festival in October 2024 and was later selected for screenings at the Dharamsala International Film Festival in India and the DocPoint Documentary Film Festival in Finland. Cannes will host its official screening at the Palais des Festivals, marking a significant moment for Tibetan narratives on the global stage.
