Haryana government takes charge of Dhirendra Brahmachari's Aparna Ashram for public welfare

The Haryana Assembly has passed the Aparna Institution (Taking Over of Management and Control) Bill, 2025, enabling the state government to take over the management and control of the Aparna Ashram in Gurugram. This decision comes after decades of disputes among the members of the Aparna Ashram Society, which was founded by the late yoga guru Dhirendra Brahmachari.

The government plans to appoint an administrator to oversee the institution's operations, ensuring its original objectives of promoting yoga education, research, and training are upheld. The bill also includes provisions for eradicating harmful habits and fostering healthy living. The takeover is initially set for a period of 10 years, with the possibility of extensions.

The Aparna Ashram, situated on 24 acres of prime land, was established by Brahmachari in the 1970s with the aim of disseminating yoga knowledge among the masses. Following his death in 1994, disputes over the institution's management and assets led to prolonged legal battles, prompting the government to intervene for the greater public interest.
