Heavy Vehicle Ban Shakes Up Traffic on NH 48 and Ghodbunder Road: What Commuters Need to Know

In a significant move to alleviate congestion, traffic authorities in the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissionerate have imposed a ban on heavy vehicles (10-wheelers or more) on NH 48 and Ghodbunder Road during peak hours starting Friday. This decision comes amid growing commuter frustration and protests over pothole-ridden, traffic-choked roads.

Key Measures Announced

Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the NH 48 and Ghodbunder Road corridors between 6 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 9 pm.

Vehicles will be stopped and redirected at key points such as toll plazas and major intersections including Sirsad Phata and Chimoti Naka.

Essential services like ambulances, fire brigade, vehicles carrying perishable goods, and oxygen transport are exempt.

The ban aims to reduce daily traffic snarls and improve road safety for commuters.
