Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has launched hydrogen powered shuttle buses in the Central Vista area from 15 May 2026 to boost clean last mile connectivity. Two IOCL supplied buses will ferry passengers between key government offices and Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth metro stations on weekdays with pocket friendly fares starting at ₹10.
In a first of its kind green mobility move for the capital DMRC has rolled out hydrogen shuttle buses to cut pollution and private vehicle dependence around the Central Vista. The pilot links busy ministry clusters and landmark buildings directly with nearby metro stations making official zone commutes cleaner cheaper and more predictable.
First Hydrogen Shuttle Buses In Central Vista
DMRC along with the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry and Indian Oil Corporation has started an integrated hydrogen powered shuttle bus service from 15 May 2026.
Indian Oil has provided two modern hydrogen fuelled buses each with seating for 35 passengers fitted with GPS tracking and CCTV cameras while DMRC handles operations conductors ticketing and passenger support.
Where The Hydrogen Shuttles Will Run
The service connects Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth metro stations with major Central Vista offices in clockwise and anticlockwise loops.
According to DMRC and NDTV the route covers Kartavya Bhawan Vigyan Bhawan Nirman Bhawan Akbar Road Baroda House National Stadium National Gallery of Modern Art India Gate and nearby government buildings in the Vista precinct.
Timings Frequency And Operating Days
The hydrogen shuttle buses run Monday to Friday excluding gazetted holidays during peak office hours.
Services operate from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and again from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM with one bus every 30 minutes on each loop making it easier for office goers to align trips with metro arrivals.
What The Fares Look Like
DMRC has kept fares deliberately low with tickets priced at ₹10 and ₹15 depending on distance stage to encourage public transport use over short car trips or autos.
Passengers can pay using the National Common Mobility Card UPI based digital payments or cash at the bus itself integrating the shuttle into Delhi’s wider smart ticketing ecosystem.
Clean Mobility Pilot With Room To Grow
Officials describe the hydrogen bus service as a pilot model for clean last mile connectivity that could later be extended to government colonies and other metro catchment areas.
By shifting thousands of short official zone trips to zero tailpipe emission buses DMRC and partner ministries aim to cut congestion around the Central Vista improve air quality and demonstrate scalable hydrogen mobility in a live urban environment.
