IBSA Leaders’ Meeting In Johannesburg: India Reaffirms Commitment To Global South

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Leaders’ Meeting in Johannesburg, where he met Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The meeting, chaired by South Africa, underscored the importance of IBSA as a unique trilateral platform uniting three major democracies and emerging economies from Asia, South America, and Africa.  

The leaders reviewed progress across political coordination, development cooperation, and global governance reforms. Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to IBSA, highlighting its role in amplifying the voice of the Global South. He also proposed the creation of an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance to share India’s digital public infrastructure, including UPI and health platforms like CoWIN, with partner nations.
