IIT Madras Establishes Rekhi Centre for Science of Happiness to Foster Student Well-Being

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has taken a pioneering step in integrating well-being into academics by launching the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness. This initiative, in collaboration with the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, aims to promote emotional resilience, positivity, and holistic personal growth among students.  

Housed within the Department of Management Studies (DoMS), the centre will focus on developing academic courses that empower students to cultivate a sense of purpose and balance in their lives. A state-of-the-art Mind Lab has also been established to provide hands-on learning experiences, enabling students to apply the principles of happiness science in practical settings.  

During the launch event, Professor V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, emphasized the importance of creating an enriching student-faculty ecosystem that nurtures both personal and intellectual growth. Dr. Satinder Singh Rekhi, Founder of the Rekhi Foundation for Happiness, highlighted the significance of a happier mindset in enhancing productivity and overall well-being.  

The Rekhi Centre for the Science of Happiness will also conduct research, educational programs, and outreach initiatives, blending scientific and philosophical approaches to happiness. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in redefining education by placing equal emphasis on academic excellence and mental well-being.
