IMD Warns 10+ States As India’s Heatwave Crisis Pushes Temperatures Past 45°C

The IMD has issued orange and red alerts across northern and central India, urging citizens to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and take precautions during peak afternoon hours. The heatwave is straining public health systems, agriculture, and power demand, with several states reporting record-breaking temperatures.

States Under Severe Heatwave

• According to IMD, the following regions are expected to remain under intense heat until May 26:
• Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh
• Uttar Pradesh (Banda at 48.2°C, Jhansi and Agra at 46.5°C)
• Rajasthan, Bihar, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana
• Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam
• Parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Uttarakhand 

Warm Nights And Humid Conditions

Beyond scorching daytime highs, several states are experiencing unusually warm nights, worsening discomfort and health risks. Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Vidarbha are particularly affected. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Gangetic West Bengal are forecast to face hot and humid weather.
