India among 10 countries most affected by extreme weather events during 30 years

India has been ranked the 6th most affected country by extreme weather events from 1993 to 2022, according to the Climate Risk Index 2025 released by Germanwatch. The country faced over 400 extreme weather events during this period, resulting in 80,000 fatalities and economic losses of nearly $180 billion. Storms, heatwaves, and floods were the primary causes of deaths globally. Despite improving its short-term ranking, India remains among the top 10 most affected nations in the long-term assessment, highlighting the urgent need for climate action and resilience-building measures.
