India Halts All Imports From Pakistan Amid Rising Tensions

India has imposed an immediate ban on all imports from Pakistan, citing national security concerns following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. The decision, announced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, prohibits both direct and indirect imports of goods originating in or exported from Pakistan.  

The ban is part of a broader set of measures aimed at tightening financial flows to Pakistan. Officials have stated that any exceptions to this restriction will require prior approval from the Indian government. The move follows escalating tensions between the two nations, with India taking steps to limit economic and diplomatic ties.  

Trade between India and Pakistan has already been minimal in recent years, with imports from Pakistan dropping sharply. The Attari-Wagah border, the primary land trade route between the two countries, had been closed in the aftermath of the attack. India’s exports to Pakistan had also declined significantly, reflecting the growing strain in bilateral relations.  

In response to the ban, Pakistan has suspended all trade with India and closed its airspace to Indian aircraft. The diplomatic fallout continues, with both nations reassessing their economic strategies amid heightened security concerns.
