India Hungrier Than Ever: Jemimah Rodrigues Targets T20 World Cup Victory In England

Speaking at a media event in Mumbai, Jemimah Rodrigues said India’s ODI victory last year has instilled belief and hunger for more silverware. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is gearing up for the T20 World Cup beginning June 12, 2026, with their opening match against Pakistan on June 14.

Hunger For Success

Rodrigues highlighted that while teams often grow complacent after winning a major title, India’s women are “even more hungry to win again and again.” She recalled how the squad began preparations immediately after the ODI win, treating every series as a stepping stone toward the T20 World Cup.

Squad And New Talent

The BCCI recently announced a 15-member squad, including uncapped pacer Nandani Sharma, who impressed in the Women’s Premier League with 17 wickets. Rodrigues, who captained Sharma at Delhi Capitals, praised her consistency and said the team’s experience will help her settle quickly. 

Challenges And Confidence

Head coach Amol Muzumdar admitted the team will miss injured all-rounder Amanjot Kaur but expressed confidence in India’s depth. India’s recent bilateral T20I series win in England—their first ever—has boosted morale, with players like Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Deepti Sharma expected to play pivotal roles.
