India Takes a Stand: Government Blocks Over 20 Carriers to Combat Spoofed International Calls

The Indian government is intensifying its battle against cybercrime by cracking down on spoofed international calls. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has successfully blocked over 20 foreign carriers, significantly reducing fraudulent calls displaying Indian numbers from 13.5 million to just 600,000 daily. This initiative, powered by an indigenously-developed system, has effectively intercepted around 90% of such calls, empowering citizens and enhancing security. Telecom providers are now required to label international calls clearly, helping users identify potential scams. This decisive action marks a major step in safeguarding Indian citizens from fraud.
