India’s Aviation Ambition: Tackling Pilot Shortage with 50 New Flying Training Organizations

In a bold move to address the growing demand for skilled pilots, the Indian government has announced plans to establish over 50 new Flying Training Organizations (FTOs) within the next five years. This initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, aims to strengthen the country’s aviation training infrastructure and ensure a steady supply of qualified pilots to meet industry needs.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already implemented policies to encourage the establishment of FTOs, including rationalized land rentals and the abolition of airport royalty fees. Existing FTOs have been operating successfully at various airports, and the new establishments will further expand training capacity and accessibility.

This ambitious plan underscores India’s commitment to developing a robust aviation ecosystem, ensuring the availability of skilled professionals to support the industry’s rapid growth.
