India's Direct Selling Industry Reaches New Heights with Rs 22,000 Crore Milestone

India's direct selling industry has achieved a historic milestone, recording a turnover of Rs 22,142 crore in the fiscal year 2023-24. This marks a 4.4% year-on-year growth, reflecting the sector's resilience and sustained expansion. The industry has grown at a compound annual growth rate of 7.15% over the past five years, driven by increasing consumer demand and entrepreneurial participation.

The sector now boasts 88 lakh active direct sellers, with women making up 44% of the workforce, a significant rise from 37% in the previous year. This highlights the growing role of women entrepreneurs in shaping the industry's future. Wellness and nutraceutical products dominate the market, accounting for 64.15% of total sales, followed by cosmetics and personal care at 23.75%.

Regionally, the northern part of India leads with 29.8% of gross sales, followed by the east, west, south, and northeast. Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh are among the top-performing states. The industry's growth is further supported by a promising regulatory framework and strategic initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and sustainability.
