JP Nadda Inaugurates World AIDS Day 2025 At Vigyan Bhawan

Union Health Minister Shri J P Nadda led the national-level observance of World AIDS Day 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Organized by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), the event brought together government leaders, health officials, community representatives, and people living with HIV to reaffirm India’s commitment to combating HIV/AIDS. This year’s theme, “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response,” underscored resilience and innovation in the global fight against HIV.  

 

Key highlights from the announcement include  

The inauguration was attended by senior officials including the Health Secretary, Director General of NACO, and Director General of Health Services.  

India has achieved a 49 percent reduction in new HIV infections over the past decade, reflecting progress in prevention and awareness.  

The event emphasized eliminating stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV, with renewed focus on community participation.  

Nadda highlighted India’s commitment to achieving the global target of ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.  

Frontline health workers, youth representatives, and NGOs were recognized for their contributions to awareness and treatment programs.  

The government reaffirmed its support for scaling up testing, treatment, and preventive measures across states and union territories.  

The theme “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response” reflected challenges posed by funding shortages and pandemic disruptions, while celebrating resilience and innovation.  

The event also commemorated lives lost to HIV/AIDS and renewed pledges to strengthen healthcare systems for vulnerable populations.  

 

The World AIDS Day 2025 observance at Vigyan Bhawan highlighted India’s progress in reducing HIV infections while acknowledging the challenges ahead. With strong government commitment, community-driven initiatives, and global collaboration, India is working toward the ambitious goal of eliminating AIDS as a public health threat within the next decade.
