Legend of Sight: Dr. Biswambhar Rajguru’s Journey Crowned with Lifetime Award

In a historic acknowledgement of unprecedented commitment, Dr. Biswambhar Rajguru, a 98-year-old ophthalmology stalwart, has been honored with the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was presented at the 40th Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress and the 83rd Annual Conference of the All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS) in New Delhi.

Dr. Rajguru, an Odisha native, has dedicated decades to revolutionizing eye care in India. He contributed significantly as a coordinator of National Program for Control and Prevention of Blindness in framing policies affecting millions. Among his distinguished service are Professor in SCB Medical College, Cuttack, Principal in MKCG Medical College, Berhampur, and Superintendent at VSS Medical College, Burla. Even after retiring from government service in 1985, he continued to serve as an advisor to the state government on ophthalmology.

This award honors his lifetime of work in the fight against blindness and the promotion of ophthalmic education and research. Dr. Rajguru's work continues to be a source of inspiration for medical professionals across generations.
