LPG Subsidy Rules Tighten As Companies Warn Consumers About Fake Delivery Messages

According to recent reports, households with annual taxable income above Rs 10 lakh may lose LPG subsidy eligibility under rules already in force, and they are being asked to respond if they believe the data is incorrect. At the same time, HPCL, Indian Oil and BPCL have issued alerts about fake messages that try to steal OTPs and delivery codes.

Subsidy Eligibility And Verification

The government rule introduced in December 2015 excludes families with annual income above Rs 10 lakh from LPG subsidy, and the latest checks are being linked to Income Tax Department data. If an LPG consumer or spouse appears above the limit, the subsidy may be stopped unless the consumer disputes the notice within seven days.

How To Spot Fake LPG Messages

HPCL says genuine delivery messages come from the sender name VM-HPGASc-S and contain a 4-digit OTP meant only for cylinder delivery. Indian Oil says Indane customers should share the 6-digit DAC only with the delivery person at the doorstep, while BPCL has warned users not to reveal codes over phone calls, WhatsApp, or suspicious links.
