The Handicrafts and Handloom Department of Jammu and Kashmir has intensified its crackdown on counterfeit practices in the handicraft sector. Officials revealed that several dealers were misrepresenting machine-made copper items and carpets as genuine handmade crafts. This malpractice not only deceives buyers but also tarnishes the reputation of Kashmir’s globally recognized artisan legacy. The department has warned that violators will face blacklisting, deregistration, and legal consequences. Inspections have already begun, with unlabelled machine-made goods being confiscated from showrooms.
