Maharashtra Approves Metro Line 5A, Vidarbha Expressways And Kumbh Mela Works

On April 22, 2026, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis chaired the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Infrastructure Development at Mantralaya, approving a series of high-value projects. These include Metro Line 5A in Mumbai, expressways in Vidarbha, and large-scale works for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.

Metro Line 5A

Cost: ₹18,130.55 crore

Length: 34.21 km with 19 stations

Route: Kapurbawdi–Dhamankar Naka (Phase I) and Dhamankar Naka–Durgadi (Phase II)

Impact: Expected to benefit 6.9 million residents in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, reducing travel time by 40–50%. 

Vidarbha Expressways

Nagpur–Gondia: 162.57 km, estimated cost ₹19,582.19 crore, land acquisition ₹3,162.18 crore

Bhandara–Gadchiroli: 94.24 km, land acquisition ₹931.15 crore

Nagpur–Chandrapur: 204.79 km, land acquisition ₹2,353.94 crore

Timeline: Completion targeted within six years to boost connectivity and industry in Vidarbha. 

Kumbh Mela Preparations

Event: Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela, 2027

Budget: ₹1,063 crore approved for Phase II works

Facilities: Parking, water supply, electricity, health services, solid waste management, and central control systems for devotees.
