Meta apologizes over an incorrect statement from its Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg that incumbent India's government lost the country's 2024 elections, based on challenges it faced following the pandemic. In an episode of a podcast, Zuckerberg said that most incumbent governments, and India's amongst them, lost the elections in 2024. That was a false fact as Narendra Modi's administration has got their third term with a reaffirmation of over 640 million voters' trust. He called it an inadvertent error but said that, for Meta, India is quite important. Responding to backlash, including from Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Meta Vice President for Public Policy in India Shivnath Thukral apologized for the "inadvertent error.
