Nandan Nilekani's AI Dream: A Billion Indians Connected

Infosys co-founder and creator of Aadhaar, Nandan Nilekani, underlined the importance of bringing AI to India's digital economy for it to impact a billion. Addressing the Arkam Annual Meet 2025, he discussed four fundamental "unlocks" to India's economic development: technology, capital, entrepreneurship, and formalization. Nilekani stressed the promise of AI in fields such as agriculture, health, and education, pointing to efforts such as the Open Agri Network. He also pointed out that affordable phones are crucial, with 4G and 5G phones becoming cheaper, possibly below Rs 10,000. This will make AI-powered services accessible to the next billion customers, propelling economic growth and hoping to achieve an $8 trillion economy in 2035.
