Nestle India Accelerates Investments with Odisha Focus: MoU Signed to Boost Manufacturing and Employment

Nestle India has taken a strategic step to expand its footprint in the country by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) at the World Food India Summit 2025 in New Delhi. This agreement will expedite investments in new (greenfield) and existing (brownfield) projects, concentrating notably on Odisha and current manufacturing locations over the next two to three years.

Key Highlights of the MoU and Investments

Investment Plan: Nestle India is advancing its Rs 5,000 crore expansion plan by 2025, including setting up its tenth factory in Odisha with an initial investment of approximately Rs 900 crore. The Odisha factory, located in Khordha district, will focus on prepared dishes and cooking aids.
Manufacturing Network: Currently, Nestle India operates nine factories nationwide in states like Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Haryana, Goa, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Gujarat (Sanand plant). The Odisha facility marks the company’s first in Eastern India.
Employment Boost: The expansion is expected to create both direct and indirect employment opportunities, reinforcing Nestle’s commitment to India’s economic growth and the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Strategic Growth: The MoU emphasizes boosting food sector investments, enhancing existing product lines, and increasing capacities to meet robust domestic demand.
Market Significance: India is the largest global market for Nestle’s MAGGI brand and its second-largest Out-of-Home business in the Asia, Oceania, and Africa region. For fiscal year 2025, Nestle India reported revenues of Rs 20,202.56 crore

Nestle India’s Chairman & MD, Manish Tiwary, highlighted that this partnership aligns with the company’s vision to sustain growth while uplifting local industry with sustainable, digitally-managed manufacturing practices. The Odisha factory is also expected to be a model of gender diversity and environmentally conscious production.
