Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will be missing his traditional Eid release calendar for the next war movie, Battle of Galwan, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. The film, which is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between Indian and Chinese soldiers, is being produced on a grand scale and is also beset by logistical issues which have led to a change of release plans.
Key points:
-
The film was originally scheduled to be out in March 2026 at Eid alFitr but will likely miss that due to complicated shoot schedules in Ladakh and tight postproduction schedules.
-
Trade sources indicate the company is likely to launch in Mayend with Bakri Eid or the Independence Day weekend of August as options.
-
Salman Khan will play Colonel Bikumalla Santosh Babu, one of the key characters of the Galwan faceoff, and Chitrangda Singh will feature in the cast in a significant role.
Production insights:
-
20 days of Ladakh shooting and 8 days of cold water shooting, and hence it is one of the physically demanding roles for Salman.
-
The cast will begin principal photography in August, and the final release plans will be made by Decemberend.
-
Handtohand combat will be demonstrated in a movie, as weapons were not used in the actual battle, making the story more genuine and gripping.
Prospects:
-
Despite bypassing Eid, Salman's mass appeal and the nationalist nature of the movie will ensure that there is strong box office interest.
-
Informal discussions with exhibitors are already in progress to acquire a strategic release date.
