During WAVES 2025 in Mumbai, Indian cinema's superstar Aamir Khan was accompanied by prominent Chinese directors Peter Ho-Sun Chan and Stanley Tong to campaign for more collaboration between Indian and Chinese films. At the "Indian Cinema, Oriental Look" session, Khan addressed how his films like Dangal resonated so strongly with audiences in China, stating, "The way people in China reacted to my films was very much the same as Indian audiences-the emotions are universal.".
Khan declared talks of an Indo-Chinese co-production, noting the prospect of a film with both Indian and Chinese stars appealing to half of the world's population-a cultural, business, and creative convergence opportunity. Hosted by India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the summit aims to make India a world cinema hub and facilitate international partnerships.
