The Government of India has rolled out a major update to the Sugamya Bharat App, aiming to make digital accessibility more effective for persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) and elderly citizens. Originally launched in 2021, the app now features a more intuitive interface and an AI-powered chatbot to assist users in real time.

Key Highlights:

The revamped app allows users to report accessibility issues across public infrastructure, transport, and digital services by uploading geo-tagged photos. So far, over 2,700 complaints have been submitted, with 1,897 resolved.

The new AI chatbot helps users navigate government schemes, accessibility guidelines, and complaint tracking. It’s designed to offer instant support without needing human intervention.

As of June 25, the app has seen 83,791 downloads, with 14,358 registered users. Most downloads have come from Android users.

The update also includes improved navigation, updated circulars, and integration of disability-related resources, making it easier for users to find relevant information.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is encouraging citizens to actively participate in identifying and reporting accessibility barriers, reinforcing the government’s goal of a barrier-free India.

This upgrade isn’t just a tech refresh—it’s a step toward making inclusion more actionable. With better tools and faster response systems, the app is becoming a key part of India’s accessibility mission.
