Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) has become the world's first renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) among the global top 10 players to become water positive across its entire operational portfolio-exceeding 14 GW. This achievement, certified by international assurance company Intertek, creates a new benchmark for sustainable energy globally.
Ahead of Schedule: AGEL became water positive a year ahead of its FY26 goal, showcasing industry-leading dedication to environmental responsibility and innovation.
What Water Positive Means: The company now returns more fresh water to nature than it takes. This is done through state-of-the-art water-saving techniques, such as waterless robotic cleaning of over 54% of its solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and rejuvenation of traditional water bodies.
Scale Impact: AGEL's water saving is as much as conserving 467 Olympic-sized swimming pools-would fulfill half-yearly water requirement of Lakshadweep. Their 85 restored ponds now sustain more than 123,000 individuals from water-deficient areas.
Challenging Landscapes: AGEL's solar and wind farms are largely situated in India's toughest, driest parts, including Gujarat's Khavda and the Thar desert. Yet AGEL has made these deserts into hubs of sustainability, and its model has become a blueprint for the world's renewable operators.
Certified Excellence: Intertek's rigorous audit included 103 operational locations and 85 water saving projects, making AGEL the sole renewable energy company in India of this size to have earned such certification.
Holistic ESG Leadership: AGEL's portfolio is not only water positive but also single-use plastic free and zero waste-to-landfill, adding credibility to its leadership at the cutting edge of green energy and sustainable development.
This milestone is not just a corporate achievement-it's a sustainability revolution, demonstrating that clean energy can be constructed in the most environmentally friendly manner possible, even in the world's most water-scarce areas.
