India’s anti-ageing industry is booming—valued at $2.5 billion in 2024 and projected to hit $4 billion by 2033, with a CAGR of 12%, outpacing traditional beauty segments. But the recent death of actress Shefali Jariwala, allegedly linked to misuse of glutathione injections, has cast a harsh spotlight on this largely unregulated sector.
From Botox and fillers to peptide therapy and IV infusions, India now ranks among the top 10 countries globally for aesthetic procedures. In 2024 alone, India saw a 25% surge in cosmetic treatments, with 1.29 million procedures performed—3.4% of the global total. Yet, experts warn that many treatments are administered by untrained personnel, risking burns, organ damage, or even death.
The industry’s rapid rise is fueled by Gen Z and millennials, who are embracing preventive skincare in their 20s. But dermatologists caution that “less is more”, urging medical supervision and long-term consistency over quick fixes.
