In a landmark move to reshape India’s school education landscape, OpenAI has partnered with the Association for Reinventing School Education (ARISE) to empower K–12 educators with advanced artificial intelligence tools and training. Announced during ARISE’s 8th Annual Education Conference in New Delhi on September 14, 2025, the collaboration aims to integrate AI into everyday teaching practices while preserving the human essence of education.
The initiative is designed to equip teachers with the skills and resources needed to use AI responsibly and effectively, ensuring that technology enhances—not replaces—the teacher-student relationship. With structured training, practical demonstrations, and a strong ethical framework, the program is set to make India’s classrooms more engaging, inclusive, and future-ready.
Key Highlights From The Collaboration
- OpenAI and ARISE launched a Masterclass titled Empowering School Education Through AI
- The session showcased AI tools for lesson planning, student engagement, and personalized learning
- Over 500,000 ChatGPT licenses to be distributed across ARISE member schools
- OpenAI to invest $500,000 in research with IIT Madras on AI’s impact in education
- Focus on pedagogy, ethics, and contextual customization for India’s diverse school ecosystem
- Initiative aligns with ARISE’s mission to drive innovation and reform in private school education
Masterclass Demonstrates AI’s Classroom Potential
The Masterclass, delivered by OpenAI experts, offered hands-on demonstrations of how AI can support teachers in designing lessons, adapting content for different learning levels, and fostering interactive learning environments. Educators were shown how AI can assist in generating quizzes, simplifying complex concepts, and offering multilingual support—all while maintaining pedagogical integrity.
The session emphasized that AI is not a substitute for educators but a powerful assistant that can reduce administrative burdens and free up time for more meaningful student engagement.
Training, Tools, and Ethical Integration
ARISE and OpenAI will roll out structured training programs across their member schools, focusing on:
- Responsible AI usage in classrooms
- Customizing AI tools for regional languages and curricula
- Addressing data privacy and ethical concerns
- Encouraging critical thinking and digital literacy among students
The initiative also includes awareness campaigns for parents and school administrators to build trust and transparency around AI adoption.
ChatGPT Licenses and Research Investment
To accelerate adoption, OpenAI will provide 500,000 ChatGPT licenses to schools affiliated with ARISE. These licenses will allow educators to access AI-powered support for curriculum development, student feedback, and classroom management.
In parallel, OpenAI will invest $500,000 in a joint research program with IIT Madras to study the long-term impact of AI on learning outcomes, teacher effectiveness, and student well-being. The research will inform future iterations of AI tools and guide policy recommendations for scalable integration.
Voices From The Leadership
Praveen Raju, President of the ARISE Governing Board and Co-Founder of Suchitra Academy, highlighted that India’s school education is on the cusp of transformation. He praised OpenAI’s tools for making classrooms more accessible and engaging, especially for Gen Z learners.
Raghav Gupta, Head of Education for India and Asia Pacific at OpenAI, noted that the collaboration allows OpenAI to engage deeply with India’s K–12 ecosystem, benefiting from ARISE’s policy alignment and school network.
Vinesh Menon, Director General and CEO of ARISE, emphasized that the partnership reflects ARISE’s commitment to being a corridor for innovation in education. He lauded OpenAI’s adaptability and sensitivity to India’s unique pedagogical needs.
Forward Outlook
The OpenAI–ARISE collaboration marks a pivotal moment in India’s education reform journey. By combining global AI leadership with grassroots educational insight, the initiative promises to redefine how learning is delivered and experienced in Indian classrooms. As schools begin to integrate these tools, the focus will remain on empowering educators, enriching student experiences, and safeguarding ethical standards.
