The ongoing Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj is producing over 400 metric tons of solid waste each day, exceeding the initial estimate of 1.5 lakh metric tons for the 45-day event. Authorities have introduced AI-equipped vans to identify and report any uncleared trash piles, ensuring timely cleanup. The Mela administration, along with the local civic corporation, has set up a daily waste collection and recycling system to prevent the problems encountered in 2019. Furthermore, 20,000 strategically placed trash bins aid in waste segregation, while 37.75 lakh liner bags help with collection and disposal. To keep the rivers clean, trash skimmer machines are removing 10-15 tons of waste daily from the Ganga and Yamuna. These initiatives, along with 6,000 sweepers working around the clock, are designed to uphold cleanliness and demonstrate India’s commitment to environmental sustainability during this large gathering.
