Bharti Airtel has taken a major leap in digital safety with the rollout of its AI-powered fraud detection system in Mumbai, successfully protecting over 2.1 million users from phishing scams and malicious links in just 50 days. The initiative, part of a nationwide rollout, is designed to combat the rising wave of online fraud in one of India’s most digitally active cities.
1. How Airtel’s AI Shield Works
-
Real-Time Threat Detection: The system scans over 1 billion URLs daily across platforms like SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, email, and browsers.
-
Instant Blocking: Harmful links are blocked in under 100 milliseconds, redirecting users to a warning page that reads: “Blocked! Airtel found this site dangerous!”
-
No Action Needed: The system is automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband users—no app, no installation, no hassle.
2. Why It Matters

Mumbai, ranked among India’s most digitally connected cities, is a prime target for phishing scams, fake delivery alerts, and banking fraud.
-
Airtel’s AI Shield protects a wide user base—from senior citizens and homemakers to students and first-time smartphone users.
-
The initiative strengthens India’s digital infrastructure by creating a safer, multilingual, and inclusive online environment.
3. What Airtel Says
“Customer safety is at the heart of everything we do,” said Aditya Kankaria, CEO – Mumbai, Bharti Airtel. “This innovation is deeply embedded within our network, offering proactive protection without requiring any action from the customer’s end.”
