Bharti Airtel has unveiled an AI-powered fraud alert system to combat OTP-related banking scams. The network-level solution detects suspicious calls in real time and warns users if a banking OTP is generated during risky interactions. Currently live in Haryana, the feature will roll out nationwide within two weeks.
India’s digital economy has seen a surge in OTP-based frauds, where scammers impersonate delivery agents or customer support executives to trick users into sharing sensitive banking OTPs. To address this, Airtel has launched a real-time AI fraud protection system that intervenes during suspicious calls.
The system works at the network level, monitoring patterns of fraud attempts. If a banking OTP is generated while a user is on a potentially risky call, Airtel instantly issues a “Fraud Alert”, warning the customer not to share the OTP.
