Airtel’s Spam Alert Service Raises the Bar for Mobile Safety in India

Airtel’s AIpowered Spam Alert Service is redefining mobile security by offering realtime protection against spam calls and messages—without requiring users to download an app or opt in manually. The service, which launched in September 2024 and recently received major upgrades, is now active across India and several African countries.

Key Highlights:

The system has flagged over 27.5 billion spam calls since launch, averaging 1,560 spam calls per second.
Spam alerts are now available in 10 Indian languages including Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, and Bengali, making it accessible to a wider user base.
The service now scans international calls and SMSes, addressing a 12% rise in overseas spam traffic.

How It Works:

Airtel’s tool uses a duallayer AI filter—one at the network level and another at the IT systems layer.
It processes 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls daily, identifying 100 million spam calls and 3 million spam SMSes every day.
Suspicious links in SMSes are checked against a centralized blacklist in real time.

User Experience:

Alerts are autoactivated for all Airtel customers, with no setup required.
Android users receive spam notifications in their preferred language.
The system also detects anomalies like frequent IMEI changes, a common sign of fraud.
