Haryana fast bowler Anshul Kamboj is causing ripples in the cricket world following a dazzling performance in the first unofficial Test between India A and England Lions at Canterbury. The 24-year-old quick pacer left veteran names such as Shardul Thakur, Mukesh Kumar, and Harshit Rana in the shade, demonstrating his capability of troubling batsmen with seam movement and accuracy.
1. Kamboj's Star Performance in England
Kamboj gave away only 24 runs during his nine-over spell on Day 2, keeping the opposition tight under control.
He was responsible for the first wicket for India A, getting rid of England Lions' Ben McKinney with a bouncer that shook the off-stump.
His prowess in getting movement from the pitch has been the talk of the town among selectors and spectators.
2. Star in Making in Domestic Cricket
Kamboj came into the limelight in November 2024, when he bowled all 10 wickets in an innings in a Ranji Trophy match against Kerala, completing his figures of 10/49.
He was only the third bowler in the history of Ranji Trophy to take all 10 wickets in an innings, joining Premangshu Chatterjee (10/20) and Pradeep Sundaram (10/78).
His First-Class figures stand at 74 wickets from 22 matches, at an average of 22.16.
3. IPL Career and Applause: MS Dhoni
Kamboj was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the IPL 2025 auction for ₹3.40 crore.
He featured in eight games, claiming eight wickets, with the best being against Gujarat Titans, where he picked three wickets.
MS Dhoni, CSK legend, lauded Kamboj's bowling as saying, "Kamboj doesn't get swing, but he gets seam movement. The ball hits you harder than the speed gun says."
4. Future Prospects and National Team Chances
Kamboj's performances in England further make a case for an India call-up, more so with the selectors in need of promising young fast-bowling talent.
His potential to adjust to conditions abroad gives him a good chance of making it to Test and ODI teams in the future.
