Airbus has projected that the global commercial aircraft fleet will nearly double to 49,210 planes by 2044, driven by booming air travel demand in India. The latest Global Market Forecast highlights India’s domestic aviation sector as the fastest-growing market, fueled by rising middle-class incomes and expanding airline networks.

The report estimates that 24,480 new aircraft will be added globally over the next two decades, with single-aisle jets like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 dominating the expansion. While China is expected to become the largest aviation market by capacity, India’s rapid passenger growth will make it a key driver of global fleet expansion.

Airbus predicts passenger traffic will grow 3.6% annually, with Middle Eastern routes emerging as another major growth factor. Despite global trade uncertainties, airlines continue to place large aircraft orders, signaling strong long-term demand.
India’s aviation boom is already evident, with Air India ordering 570 planes from Airbus and Boeing since 2023, and IndiGo expanding its fleet with over 900 Airbus aircraft, including 60 A350 widebody jets.

While supply-chain challenges persist, Airbus remains optimistic about future aircraft deliveries, reinforcing India’s position as a global aviation powerhouse.
