Finally, after days of heatwaves, Delhi will witness some relief today with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting light rain and windy conditions. The capital has witnessed severe heat with the temperature crossing 45°C, and has been part of the hottest spells of the season.

Key Highlights:
  • Rain & Thunderstorms: IMD forecast light showers and thunderstorms towards the later part of the day to provide relief.
  • Gusty Winds Expected: Wind gusts could be up to 40–50 kmph, with rare gusts up to 60 kmph in storms.
  • Temperature Drop: The maximum temperatures are to be maintained at 41–43°C, and a gradual drop is anticipated from June 14–17.
  • Air Quality Update: AQI in Delhi became 'moderate', after a couple of days of worsened AQI because of pollution and heat.
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for hot and humid conditions, recommending that individuals consume a lot of water and seek shade. While the rain will be welcome relief for the moment, heatwave conditions are expected to persist in Northwest India.

When gradually advancing monsoon winds push ahead, Delhi can expect more uniform cooling in the coming weeks. Citizens can expect cloudy skies and scattered showers after June 14.
