Asahi India Glass Limited (AIS) has commenced commercial operations at its state-of-the-art Soniyana Float Glass facility in Chittorgarh, Rajasthan, as of March 25, 2025. This greenfield project is India's first float glass plant powered by green hydrogen, marking a milestone in sustainable manufacturing. The facility integrates advanced technologies, including solar energy and flue gas electricity generation, to meet 94% of its power needs through renewable sources.
The Soniyana plant will produce high-quality float glass for automotive and architectural applications, aligning with AIS's commitment to decarbonization and circularity. With a 20-year collaboration with INOX Air Products for green hydrogen supply, the facility is set to reduce carbon emissions by 1,250 MT annually. This expansion reinforces AIS’s leadership in the glass industry and supports India's renewable energy goals.
