In a bid to streamline vehicular movement and reduce congestion, Eastern Railway has launched a trial run for dedicated vehicle lanes under the station’s canopy. The initiative, rolled out on Friday, is part of a larger traffic circulation plan designed to ease commuter experience ahead of the festive Puja season.

- The innermost lane is now reserved exclusively for autos and three-wheelers

- The outermost lane is earmarked for vehicles heading to the parking zone, app cabs arriving from outside, and VIP/VVIP vehicles

- Ambulances are exempt from lane restrictions and may access the station via any lane for swift entry

3. Temporary infrastructure for trial phase
- Delineators have been installed to mark lanes during the trial period
- Feedback from this phase will inform permanent infrastructure and signage

4. Platform access and commuter convenience
- Two separate drop-off points are being created to segregate suburban and mail/express train passengers
- This aims to reduce criss-crossing and confusion, allowing smoother entry to designated platforms

5. No-stopping zones and traffic regulation
- The plan includes strict no-stopping zones around the canopy to prevent gridlocks
- Waiting time for vehicles in certain lanes will be regulated based on real-time traffic density
