Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has unveiled ambitious plans to tackle Bengaluru’s notorious traffic congestion with a futuristic aerial pod transport system. The government is conducting a feasibility study to introduce driverless electric pods that would operate on elevated tracks, similar to a proposed route between Dhaula Kuan and Manesar in Delhi.
These “flying buses”—technically aerial pods—would function like on-demand taxis, carrying five to six passengers per pod. The system aims to reduce travel time, ease congestion, and promote green mobility. Gadkari emphasized that Bengaluru’s traffic issues, especially during heavy rainfall, make it an ideal candidate for such an innovation.
The minister also highlighted other transport upgrades, including flash-charging electric buses that can recharge in 30 seconds and run at 120 km/h. A 135-seater executive-class bus has already been launched in Nagpur, with plans to expand the service to Delhi, Jaipur, Dehradun, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
While the aerial pod system is still in the study phase, Gadkari’s vision signals a major shift in India’s urban transport strategy, aiming for faster, cleaner, and more efficient mobility solutions.
