Holi, celebrated annually in India and other parts of the world, is a vibrant festival of colors and joy. It marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The festival is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology, particularly the legend of Prahlad, the son of the demon king, Hiranakashyap and Holika.
Prahlad's deep devotion to Lord Vishnu was disapproved by his father and he tried to kill his son with the help of his sister, Holika who had a boon of being fireproof. Legend says that Lord Vishnu saved him from his evil aunt Holika's attempt to kill him in a fire.
Holi is celebrated over two days. The first day, known as Holika Dahan, involves lightning bonfires symbolising the destruction of evil and the second day is the colourful celebration.
This is the general and the most widely accepted story of this vibrant festival. If we were to understand the Spiritual meaning of this, then we can truly celebrate the festival in its true Spirit and bring the real joy and peace within ourselves.
Renowned Life Coach and Author of Bestselling books "WOW - Wisdom of Words" and "NOW - Nuggets of Wisdom", Mr. Mahaesh Toshniwal has explained this in a whole new perspective in one of his life altering discourses.
Hiranakashyap represents our carnal mind which is more attuned to the outward glory whereas Prahlad represents our Subconscious mind which inherently seeks inner peace and bliss.
The Holika Dahan symbolises the burning away of our less desired past, thoughts of lack, limitations, any vices that we may have adapted.
If we become Prahlad and believe in the Universal concept of the Omnipresence of God in every atom or particle, then we should introspect and analyse certain facts about our life in various aspects. Once identified we can then pledge to remove the Hiranakashyap from our lives which are present in the form of being in the state of lack, limitations, false judgements, old beliefs and learnings, etc. and attain inner peace which moves us closer to God.
So, think deeper and find out what you desire to burn away from your life in the Holika Dahan this year and what truly brings Peace and Joy to you from within.
Are you ready to colour yourself in this new spectrum of spiritual thoughts this HOLI?
