ASHA workers, who are often the first point of contact for healthcare in rural India, just got some good news. Social Welfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy has announced a new set of incentives to recognize their hard work and encourage more institutional deliveries in government hospitals.

Key Highlights:
  • ASHA workers will now get an extra ₹1,000 for every hospital delivery they help make happen. This is on top of their regular monthly salary of ₹10,000. The extra payment is being funded with help from donors.
  • The announcement came during the opening of a new X-ray unit at a Government Primary Health Centre. The minister used the occasion to talk about the government’s focus on improving healthcare for underprivileged communities.
  • The main goal here is to encourage more women to give birth in hospitals, which is safer for both mothers and babies. This should help reduce maternal and infant deaths, especially in rural areas.
The minister also thanked local leaders and donors in Prakasam district for supporting ASHA workers and promoting hospital deliveries.

In addition to the new incentives, the government is spending ₹50 lakh to upgrade primary health centre buildings and build new roads around hospitals, making it easier for people to access care.
The minister made a point to appreciate the teamwork between doctors, nurses, and ASHA workers, and said that ongoing support from both the government and private donors is key to making these programs successful.

This move is part of a larger national effort to recognize the vital role ASHA workers play in India’s healthcare system.
