South Africa’s Aiden Markram has once again shown why he’s considered a player for the big moments. In the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, Markram’s unbeaten century has put South Africa within touching distance of a historic win over Australia. After the day’s play, teammate Keshav Maharaj spoke openly about just how much Markram’s knock means to the team and their fans.

Maharaj described Markram as a “big match player” and said it was a privilege to watch him bat under pressure. Markram’s 102 not out came at a time when South Africa really needed someone to anchor the innings, especially with the team chasing a tough target of 282. His partnership with Temba Bavuma, who is also unbeaten despite a hamstring issue, has steadied the ship and given the Proteas real hope.

Maharaj also touched on the emotional side of the game, mentioning how much a win would mean for South African cricket after years of near-misses in ICC tournaments. He praised Markram’s calmness and focus, especially against a strong Australian bowling attack and on a pitch that hasn’t been easy for batters.

With just 69 runs needed and plenty of wickets in hand, South Africa is in a strong position. Markram’s ability to deliver when it matters most has given his team and fans a reason to believe that this time, the story might finally have a happy ending.
