India's film, television, and digital video services industry generated a record ₹5.14 lakh crore ($61.2 billion) of economic value in 2024, according to a new Motion Picture Association (MPA)-Deloitte report that was unveiled at the WAVES 2025 conference in Mumbai. The sector now supports 2.64 million jobs and is a mainstay of India's creative economy.
The report identifies a robust post-pandemic recovery with direct gross output at ₹1.41 lakh crore ($16.8 billion) driven by surging demand for movies, dramas, and sports across all screens. In the years ahead, the sector will expand at 6–7% CAGR and reach ₹1.47 lakh crore ($17.5 billion) in FY2029, and could potentially reach ₹1.65 lakh crore ($20 billion) with supportive policies.
The governors lauded India's dynamic screen industry as a global center of storytelling and cultural influence.
