Indian Railways has introduced a sweeping digital transformation to stop unauthorized automated bookings, providing access to true users in a fair and equitable manner. The project, driven by artificial intelligence-based bot prevention systems, has already resulted in the blocking of 2.5 crore suspicious user IDs, significantly enhancing availability of tickets during rush hours.

Major Developments and System Features

The operation is against spurious booking software that hitherto controlled Tatkal and Premium Tatkal bookings.

A new AI-based detection system has been installed to detect and filter out bot traffic.

The record for highest-ever per-minute ticket booking was established on May 22, 2025, at 31,814 tickets booked in one minute, demonstrating the scalability of the enhanced infrastructure.

User Authentication and Fairness Features

Verified Aadhaar users are able to book tickets on the fly, whereas non-Aadhaar users have to wait three days post-registration before they can access high-demand bookings.

The average daily number of logins by users has increased by 19.53 percent, standing at 82.57 lakh in FY 2024–25.

E-ticketing has become 86.38 percent of reserved tickets, indicating people's faith in the refurbished system.

Website Performance and Cybersecurity Improvements

Seamless integration with a high-end Content Delivery Network (CDN) provides quicker page loading and lesser server overload.

87 percent of static content is served through CDN, enhancing website availability and responsiveness.

Suspicious user accounts are actively marked and forwarded to the Cyber Crime Portal for further analysis.

Future Expectations and Passenger Gains

The reforms promise to put an end to booking scams, making it more equitable to access for millions of passengers.

Indian Railways plans to extend AI-based security operations, making ticketing more transparent and efficient.

The move solidifies the government's pledge to digital transformation, giving a new standard for public service platforms.
