Akasa Air has announced it will start flying from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) with more than 100 weekly domestic departures right from day one. This marks a significant step in the airline’s expansion and the development of NMIA as a major aviation hub.
Key Highlights:
-
Akasa Air will begin operations at NMIA with over 100 domestic flights per week, aiming to increase this to more than 300 domestic and over 50 international departures weekly by the winter schedule.
-
The airline plans to base a large portion of its fleet at NMIA, making it the airline with the highest percentage of operations from the new airport.
-
NMIA is set to open in August and is designed to ease congestion at Mumbai’s existing airport, initially handling 20 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 90 million passengers in the future.
-
Akasa Air’s network strategy from NMIA focuses on strong domestic connectivity and international expansion into key Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian markets.
-
The airline aims to establish up to 10 aircraft parking bases at NMIA by 2027 as part of its growth plan.
Akasa’s CEO, Vinay Dube, said this move aligns with the airline’s vision to be future-ready and responsive to Indian travelers’ needs while supporting regional development and economic growth.
The partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, which operates NMIA, highlights a shared commitment to making the new airport a key domestic and international hub.
Akasa Air will continue its operations at Mumbai’s existing airport alongside NMIA, creating a dual-hub system to improve connectivity and reduce congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
This expansion positions Akasa Air as a major player in India’s aviation landscape, ready to serve growing demand with a modern infrastructure base.
