The National Indian Film Festival of Australia is set to pay tribute to the late legendary filmmaker Shyam Benegal from February 13 to March 2 through a retrospective of selected films in various cities across Australia. With a view to provide an insight into Indian cinema beyond culture and geography, this event has the support of various Indian government bodies and the NFDC. Shyam Benegal, who died on 23 December 2024, made unforgettable contributions to Indian cinema with films like "Ankur," "Nishant," and "Manthan." This retrospective gives viewers a wonderful chance to experience the contribution of this maverick filmmaker to parallel cinema.
