Two young prodigies from the Midrand Chess Club are turning heads on the tournament circuit with performances that defy their novice status. Fourteen-year-old Arham Khalife and seven-year-old Teboho Ntseare recently delivered standout performances in official competitions, signaling a bright future for the club’s youth program.

Arham Khalife clinched second place in the B section of the Chess Powerhouse Youth Day Rapid held on June 16, demonstrating strategic acumen and composure in rapid-format play.
Teboho Ntseare, competing in her second rated tournament, earned an impressive seventh place finish in the U8/U10 combined section of the JMC Blairgowrie Rapid on June 8, winning praise for her resilience and growing game sense.
Coach Kgosimang Molefe lauded both players' growth: Arham is set to compete in the SA Open Championship, while Teboho is gaining vital experience and confidence at a remarkable pace for her age.
Their use of well-rehearsed openings and calm time management reflects a culture of discipline, mentorship, and ambition within the Midrand Chess Club.
With the SA Open on the horizon and intensive winter training sessions ahead, Midrand is fast becoming a launchpad for South Africa’s next generation of chess talent.
