Satyajit Ray's 1966 film 'Nayak', which had Uttam Kumar and Sharmila Tagore in the lead, has been restored and re-released on the big screen. The black-and-white movie, directed by cinematographer Subrata Mitra, is a complex psychological study of a film star. Sharmila Tagore, who appears in the role of a journalist in the film, looks back on the experience of working with Ray and Kumar. The 116-minute film has dream sequences and a keen probing of stardom. Tagore compliments Uttam Kumar's sparkling performance and Ray's sharp direction. The re-release enables the young generation to appreciate this masterpiece of Indian cinema.
