India will extend its Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) rules to 10-11 more sectors to shift from the "take, make, dispose" pattern to a circular economy. The decision was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change during a FICCI event and will make the producers responsible for the whole lifecycle of their products, encouraging recycling and minimizing waste. Fostered by Niti Aayog, the program aims at increasing resource efficiency and sustainability for industries. Such growth supports India's larger ecological objectives and has the potential to spur environmentally-friendly innovation.
