As of January 24, 2025, China, Russia, and India are still leading the world in terms of emissions of CO2. In 2023, China emitted 11.9 billion metric tons of CO2, a jump of more than 38% from 2010. This growth is mainly due to a resurgence in coal and oil use after the pandemic. Meanwhile, India's emissions have been on the increase, with demands for immediate climate action. Both nations face a critical pressure in achieving their climate commitments because they are getting close to crucial targets set for 2030. Russia, therefore, remains one of the important players in this emissions landscape, thus necessitating global coordinated efforts in combating climate change effectively.
