Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority Unveils Affordable, Digital Travel Incentive
The Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) has launched an innovative 'One Rupee Ticket' offer, enabling commuters to book bus, metro, or suburban train tickets for just ₹1 via the Chennai One mobile app. Available for one use per registered user during the campaign, the offer promotes Chennai’s 'one city, one app, one ticket' vision.
To avail, commuters select their route on the app and pay through BHIM or Navi UPI, with surprise cashbacks offered on subsequent transactions. The Chennai One platform integrates transport modes including MTC buses, CMRL metro, suburban trains, autos, and cabs — all purchasable with a single ticket.
Since its launch in September 2025, the app has attracted over 5.5 lakh users and supported 8.1 lakh ticket bookings, receiving positive feedback for its trip planning, unified QR code system, and digital payment convenience.
CUMTA member secretary I Jeyakumar said, “Our goal is to transform urban mobility and encourage a digital-first approach to public transport with this affordable fare campaign.”
